Harmony that goes beyond Daejeon to the world!

Founded in 1981, Camerata Vocale Daejeon has grown into one of the best choirs in Korea with outstanding musicality and creative performances. The invitation to Bach International Choral Festival(2005, Germany) and registration in the ¡¸British & International Music Yearbook 2007¡¹ were marked as some of the special moments in its past careers.

In 2007, Camerata Vocale Daejeon opened a new chapter in Korean choral history by appointing Maestro Winfried Toll as an Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, who inherited the genealogy of Helmuth Rilling, the living legend of choral music. With Maestro Toll, the choir gave a fresh blow to the Korean choral music scene by performing Bach¡¯s ¡´Mass in b minor, BWV 232¡µ, and ¡´St. John Passion, BWV 245¡µ, ¡´Matthauspassion, BWV 244¡µ Since then, Camerata Vocale Daejeon has been presenting a wide repertoire ranging from baroque choral music to contemporary music.

As a leading choir in Korean choral history, the choir has been performing high-quality repertoires such as Monteverdi¡¯s ¡´Vespro della Beata Vergine¡µ, Haydn¡¯s ¡´Die Schopfung¡µ and ¡´Nelson Mass¡µ, Bach¡¯s ¡´Matthauspassion, BWV 244¡µ and ¡´Christmas Oratorio, BWV 248¡µ, Handel¡¯s ¡´Messiah, HWV 56¡µ and ¡´Israel in Egypt, HWV 54¡µ, Mendelssohn¡¯s ¡´Elijah, Op. 70¡µ, Puccini¡¯s ¡´Messa di Gloria¡µ, and many other composers¡¯ Requiems.

The choir¡¯s passionate challenges in music continued beyond the stage. The choir released recordings of Handel¡¯s ¡´Dixit Dominus, HWV 232 (2010)¡µ and Masrin¡¯s ¡´Mass for double choir (2013)¡µ by Sony Label. Extending its area outside Daejeon, the choir won the 1st prize in Grand Awards by Seoul Arts Center, orchestra choir category(2014) and was invited to perform at TongYoung International Music Festival(2013), and Menuhin Festival Gstaad(Swiss, 2014). The choir also had successful tour concerts in Germany, Slovakia, Serbia, and Croatia widely advertising the art of Korea.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2021, Camerata Vocale Daejeon has raised its international status once again through performing works such as Carl Orff's ¡´Carmina Burana¡µ, Beethoven's ¡´Missa Solemnis, Op. 123¡µ, and Handel's ¡´Messiah, HWV 56¡µ. The choir was also invited to the closing concert and special concert of the TongYoung International Music Festival. Trying to introduce the diversity of choir performances to the world, the choir made an appearance of new types of concerts such as the opera Concertante ¡´Der Freischutz¡µ.

Believing in the power of music, Camerata Vocale Daejeon will continue to deliver the love and appreciation for choral singing, inspiring the lives of present and future generations.
